 Thanks to Gordon for this :)

The Average Child
by Mike Buscemi

I don’t cause teachers trouble;
My grades have been okay.
I listen in my classes.
I’m in school every day.

My teachers think I’m average;
My parents think so too.
I wish I didn’t know that, though;
There’s lots I’d like to do.

I’d like to build a rocket;
I read a book on how.
Or start a stamp collection…
But no use trying now.

’Cause, since I found I’m average,
I’m smart enough you see
To know there’s nothing special
I should expect of me

I’m part of that majority,
That hump part of the bell,
Who spends his life unnoticed
In an average kind of hell.

Something for P7V to think about ?

Cool Stuff!!

I received an email tonight from Brian (No.3 son) …

“…….was outside last night and noticed a beam of light going across the sky, thought it must be coming from the moon, looked up to see it and saw a huge green, glowing spiral in the sky. it changed quickly to purple and all these mad colours and the whole sky started goin crazy with green light flowing across it, quickly realised it was the northern lights! got my neil and clare out of bed and started takin photos. bit tough without a tripod but sat it down in a few places with 25 sec exposures. we were all pretty amazed, never thought i’d get to see them this far south. one guy passing in the street said he’d lived in edmonton (north of banff) all his life and had only seen them once before. beautiful stuff.

going to send them to the local paper as they print weekly photos from reader getting interesting shots.

I used Photostory 3 and Photobucket to create this video:

Cool !!!!!!!!

Some Bright Ideas!

March 1, 2008

It’s great to get presents, and sometimes a present can be very special because of the thought that has gone in to choosing it :)

Anna gave me this beautiful book at Christmas … and I really cherish it! She wrote this lovely message inside:

book2.jpg

I used to write my ’flashes of inspiration’ (usually in the middle of the night!) in all sorts of little scraps of paper … now I have Anna’s book.

Sometimes, though, I get ideas while ’surfing the net’. Like these ideas that I’ve adapted from this article

  •  For our Photoaday challenge, we could choose different small groups each week. Their task is to capture the 10 “coolest” things happening in school that week. They would be given time to plan and ask around a bit first.

  • We could buy a pay-as-you-go Sim card to put into our Bluetooth LG Shine phone. P7v could be given the new phone number and they can text their thoughts to it 24/7. Free software allows you store or display their feedback on to a server?? (need to investigate this). Because the phone only receives texts, it won’t cost the school a penny.

  •  Assemblies sometimes need to be cancelled. Instead, student media teams could produce an online broadcast. Any information that would have been included in the assembly can be put over.  This would mean that parents could listen online, too!

  • We could re-vamp the walls in the computer suite to tell others in the school how to access our great blogs and wikis.

  What do you think??? Leave a comment to add your thoughts.

Book Club News

March 1, 2008

book1.jpgWell, I’ve finished my book ….. again. It was great :) It’s funny how I remembered little bits of it after all those years since I first read it. I thought it would all come flooding back to me as I read the story again - but it didn’t .. which is great, because I got to experience all the mystery and excitement that I must have experienced the first time around :D

I would recommend this book - even though the language is a bit ‘posh’ sometimes. Twelve year olds now don’t tend to say things like:

“That’s jolly decent of you!”

I found the ending thought provoking … I won’t say any more about that, because I know that some P7’s are reading the book, too! I’m looking forward to finding out what they think :)

Thanks Julie ……..:)
